The water we usually fill our pools with is often ice-cold — straight from a well or borehole. How can you make sure your swim is relaxing and not freezing? Here are three effective ways to heat your pool.
Option 1. Let the sun do the work
Solar Cover (Solar Blanket)
The sun will naturally heat your pool, but why not boost the process? Simply place a solar blanket on the water’s surface and go about your day. The bubbles in the cover refract sunlight, allowing the water to warm up faster. The exact temperature increase depends on the weather, but on a sunny afternoon, you’ll feel the difference.
Option 2. Electric Heater / Heat Exchanger
An electric pool heater is affordable at the start — for example, heating a 50 m³ pool with a 12 kW unit will cost around $300–350. The downside? High energy consumption. Heating the same volume of water may require around 1500 kWh, with seasonal bills running up to $250–300.
For larger pools, a heat exchanger made of stainless steel is an excellent solution — especially if you already have or plan to install a boiler. It connects directly to your heating system (gas, solid fuel, or even pyrolysis boiler), making it one of the most efficient options for big pools.
Option 3. Heat Pump
A heat pump is the most modern and energy-efficient method. It extracts warmth from the surrounding air and transfers it into the pool water — much like an air conditioner, but in reverse. This system is powerful, cost-effective, and perfect for those who want a warm pool season after season without skyrocketing utility bills.
